Pepper Row X Stephen Tayo – Fashion and Photography, Nigeria, 2019

Stephen Tayo studied philosophy because he was curious about the nature of humanity. This curiosity led him to begin documenting people in their natural habitat, focusing on Lagotians and their effortless sense of style. Using photography as his medium, Stephen Tayo captures the striking authenticity of daily Nigerian life and shares it with a world audience. Here he works with fashion creative Omafume Niemogha AKA Pepper Row on a conceptual photo project following the narrative of a fictitious royal couple who are merchants of exotic flowers and seeds. The series is called “A Floral Story: A tale of Love, Magic, Flowers and the Beauty of Timing.”

Pepper Row’s brand ethos merges the rich cultural heritage of Africa with sophisticated 21st century designs characterised by colour, contrasting texture and form, artisanal craftsmanship and ethically sustainable production. Omafume Niemogha is the powerhouse behind Pepper Row — an advocate for processes that are consciously considerate of people and the environment, Niemogha focuses on slow fashion that is African made, in tune with the environment, and infused with wild imagination. Part of her design is about dreaming up “a not so distant utopian future where African influences in the arts, music, literature, fashion, culture, dance, technology …. abounds in the world.”
